Biography

Roy Levesta Jones Jr., born Pensacola, Florida in 1969, was the consensus pound-for-pound best fighter in the world from 1994 to 2003 — perhaps the most athletically gifted boxer to ever wear gloves. He was the most controversial Olympic loser in history (he obliterated Park Si-Hun in the 1988 light middleweight final but lost the decision in one of boxing's worst-ever judging scandals). As a pro he won the IBF middleweight title (1993), super middleweight (1994), light heavyweight (1997), and — in his 2003 March bout against John Ruiz — became the first former middleweight world champion to win the heavyweight title in 106 years. His signature pull-counter and the unorthodox lead-foot-square-low-hand style baffled opponents until age finally caught him in the 2004 trilogy of losses to Antonio Tarvis, Glen Johnson, and Tarver again.
