Biography

Deontay Leshun Wilder, born Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1985, won Olympic heavyweight bronze in Beijing 2008 and turned pro in 2008. He won the WBC heavyweight title in 2015 (TKO 10 over Bermane Stiverne) and made 10 successful defences before losing to Tyson Fury in February 2020 (TKO 7). The trilogy with Fury (2018 draw, 2020 TKO 7 loss, 2021 KO 11 loss) is the centrepiece of his career. Wilder's right hand is the most discussed single punch in modern heavyweight boxing — at his peak he carried a 97% KO ratio, the highest of any unified heavyweight champion.
