Biography
Roberto Durán Samaniego, born Guararé, Panama in 1951, fought professionally for 33 years and is the greatest lightweight in history. He held the WBA / WBC lightweight title from June 1972 to February 1979 (12 defences). At welterweight, he beat Sugar Ray Leonard in 1980 — 'The Brawl in Montréal' — only to lose the rematch five months later by walking away in the 8th round with the words 'No más' ('No more'). He recovered to win titles at super welterweight (1983, against Davey Moore) and middleweight (1989, against Iran Barkley). Famous for the 'Hands of Stone' — his fists destroyed opponents in close. Retired in 2001 at age 50.
