Biography

Thomas Hearns, born Memphis, Tennessee in 1958 and raised in Detroit, was the first fighter to win world titles in five different weight divisions (welterweight 1980, super welterweight 1982, light heavyweight 1987, middleweight 1987, super middleweight 1988 — disputed by some historians). At 6'1" with a 78-inch reach he was a giant among welterweights, and his right cross was the heaviest single punch in the 'Four Kings' era. He lost the 1981 unification with Sugar Ray Leonard in 14 rounds, fought the legendary 1985 war with Marvin Hagler (lost in 3 rounds), and walked away with two wins over Roberto Durán. Retired 2006 at age 48.
