Biography

Vasyl Anatoliyovych Lomachenko, born Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi, Ukrainian SSR in 1988, was a two-time Olympic gold medallist with a 396-1 amateur record. He won the WBO featherweight title in his second pro fight (June 2014) and unified the super featherweight (2016) and lightweight (2018-2020) divisions. His footwork — the 'Matrix' lateral-shuffle, pivot-to-angle, parry-to-counter system — is the technical benchmark of the 2010s. Lost to Devin Haney in May 2023 (UD) and to George Kambosos in October 2023; resumed his career as IBF lightweight champion (TKO 11 over Kambosos, May 2024).
