Double Jab - Cross

Two jabs followed by the cross. The first jab measures range, the second jab pushes through the guard, and the cross arrives behind a closed-distance opponent. Wladimir Klitschko's signature combination throughout his 9-year reign.

Key points

  • The first jab is a feint; the second is real.
  • Step in with the first jab; the second jab is in place.
  • The cross must arrive within 0.2 seconds of the second jab returning.
  • Step off after the cross — backward or to either side.

Common mistakes

  • Identical jabs — predictable.
  • No step on the first jab — never closes range.
  • Holding the cross at full extension.

Drills

  1. Heavy-bag: 5 rounds of double-jab + cross + step-off.
  2. Mitts: catcher backs up; you double-jab to close, then cross.
